Figure in Oxblood and Sky 1 | 29.7 by 42 cm
Part of my ongoing series, The Printed Self, this original painting explores clothing as a language of identity through expressive line, colour and hand-carved relief printing.
Rather than portraying a specific individual, I create simplified figures that invite viewers to recognise something of themselves within the work. The anonymous figure becomes both deeply personal and quietly universal, leaving space for individual interpretation and connection.
The repeated geometric pattern transforms the dress into more than clothing. It becomes a visual language, reflecting the ways memory, experience and self-expression shape who we are. Set against a soft sky-blue background, the rich oxblood tones create a dialogue between strength and openness, while the expressive line captures a sense of movement and ease.
Balancing bold composition with intuitive mark-making, Figure in Oxblood and Sky I celebrates identity as something continually evolving - formed through the stories we carry, the clothes we wear and the spaces we choose to inhabit.
